Dive into the reality of independent films at the Oscars! Anora Controversy.

Mar 09, 2025

I want to dive into independent films sweeping the Oscars. This was not independent film per our standards as filmmakers, but I will say, us Berserkers, we are proud of you, Sean Baker, for all you have accomplished. We support all filmmakers, artist, performers, and we celebrate independent film everyday. With that said, I'm going to get into the real shit.

Sean states: "So we're all here tonight and watching this broadcast because we love movies. Where did we fall in love with the movies? At the movie theatre."

Independent filmmakers with true low budgets often don't make it into theatres. Neon, the distributor, proudly labels this movie, Anora as an independent film. This in itself is misleading, especially when you do some research and find out the major studios who these independent film LLCs are tied to and funded by.

But first, my dear Berserkers, how often do you see an Oscar winner thank the distributor at the Oscars? How many independent filmmakers make movies for not only 6 million but the total budget of $24 million?

As someone who comes from this world of working with studios who open affiliate distribution companies and then label them as independent film distributors while seeing how sales agents, unions and Oscars really fool you in order to get you to want to sign with them and give them a budget and your asset. Yeah, let's keep digging.

In this discussion, I want to analyze the notion, as Sean Baker yells out to independent filmmakers that they can do what he did with the little 6 million dollar budget for their movie Anora.

Every independent film artist laughs because a 6 Million dollar budget is massive. If you got your parents to put up 6 million dollars for your movie- they would be out 6 million plus.

But wait...the 6 million is not all that was spent- the NEON CEO Tom Quinn told the outlet that 18 million dollars was spent on marketing, distribution and an awards campaign. Dear Berserkers- when you throw out money like that- you will collect every award you want. Many Oscar audience viewers commented "So these awards were bought." Yes.

In a real world, the odds of an independent filmmaker who is NOT within the circle of an elite group working under the studios, who only works with their own, getting a return on such a budget is A ZERO chance. The very thought of it is laughable. Let us continue this exploration.

Neons parent company is 30 west. A distribution company and WAIT FOR IT- HERE IS THE KEY WORD! SALES AGENCY founded in 2017, THEY ARE SALES AGENTS! They are all a part of a specific religion within Hollywood that outsiders are NOT ALLOWED INTO- not for earning money, anyway.

This Quote GROUP who operate under the studios and take home Oscars, are all a part of a big business ring. I know because I worked with these religious groups in Hollywood directly, I trusted and cared for each individual I worked with. They were so convincing.

They love Money much more than business morals.

30 West and these groups of SALES AGENTS stick together, they are a division under BLUMHOUSE.

Blumhouse Productions, LLC, also known as BH Productions, is an American independent film and television production company founded in 2000 by Jason Blum and Amy Israel.

Blumhouse is a partner of NEON. Oh look, their movies won Oscars too! Blumhouse is known mainly for producing horror films, such as the Paranormal Activity franchise, the Insidious franchise, Sinister, The Purge franchise, Split, Get Out, Happy Death Day as well as its sequel Happy Death Day 2U, the Halloween franchise (2018–2022), Freaky, The Invisible Man (2020), The Black Phone, MEGAN, Five Nights at Freddy's and Speak No Evil. It has also produced drama films, such as Whiplash and BlacKkKlansman, which both earned nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Get Out and BlacKkKlansman won Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Most of Blumhouse's theatrically released films since 2014 are owned and distributed by Universal Pictures as part of a ten-year first-look deal. So this is not an independent film with the backing of the exclusive "white religious family" that makes up the Oscars.

To find out more about how these sales agents work, you can log into Filmmaker Berserk and receive the business formula used for capturing your independent film in one big beautiful package that will transform a filmmakers life.

With these Oscars, they have the trust and attention of true independent filmmakers who will give up their whole library of work and all money they charge you up front to sign with them. you will give it up, because you will believe the return is coming. And it won't. Trust me on this.

From the Investment into winning awards, to the promotion at those awards knowing indie artists are watching and dreaming- It is all by design to get to your work.

In conclusion, the Oscars are one big designed commercial put on by a religious group that only shares revenue with one another. It is A commercial that promotes industry professionals, who hold in their hand this prestigious award that filmmakers and actors will sell their soul to get closer to the idea of obtaining.

The sales agents and distributors, are former employees of the major studios who go out and form LLC's in new business names. They promote themselves as independent film distribution companies while investing a ton of money on a particular film and use that as the center point of their new distribution company. The Director and team stand on stage with that Oscar and thank the distributor!!!!

Now independent film artists around the world know that they too can easily make a movie matching the quality and story of Anora- the key is that it is an exclusive group of gatekeepers that stand around each movie- and use it as a commercial to get you to throw them your movies that they will distribute and limit payouts to you on.

Yes you can make it there- but you have to know the maze of relationships and business prowess it takes. You have to understand where every penny must truly go. You have to shake the right hands, be at the right place, know the history of these distributors and craft an exact plan. As well as negotiate the deal so you don't get robbed. This religion prides themselves on robbery of people's dreams.

I know- because my team and I have been there working directly with Oscar winners and the business model was exactly the same, with so much more involved that I did not cover here- We do cover it in Filmmaker berserk.com. We will see you soon Berserker.
